Practice Tip - Mozart’s Memo - Volume 48

Practice Tip

One of the most effective practice incentives I’ve heard came from a parent who paired short, clear goals with a time limit, about 3 -5 minutes each. Practice would end either when each goal was achieved or when the time was up—whichever came first. This approach shifts the focus from practicing for a set duration to achieving meaningful progress. Once all the goals are met, the child is rewarded with the freedom to play whatever they like. This could mean revisiting a favorite piece, figuring out a melody by ear, or simply improvising and exploring the piano.
